Please allow me to introduce myself.
Hi, I'm a new member on GTO Forum and really like the site. I especially enjoy listings of the latest posts, new member introductions, and the news items. I look forward to hearing from other GTO owners, maybe even helping them out if I can. Let me tell you a little about my car and myself, if you care to hear.
I have owned my 2006 black M6 GTO for 14 months. The engine is a stock LS2 and will stay that way for now. Nothing against modders, but I gradually modded my LT1 Z28, and was overwhelmed by unforseen problems. I was driving rental cars more often than my own car - plus all I ever wanted was the HP that comes stock with an LS2. But I am considering a Lingenfelter upgrade after the warranty runs out.
I have done some appearance mods. I replaced the stock 18" wheels with Fikse FM-5's: 18 x 8 in front, 18 x 9 in back, 45mm offset all around. Tires are Michelin PS2's, 235/40-18 and 265/35-18. I am pleased with the increase in rear traction. I also deleted the spoiler and rear badges, filling in the holes. I added drag bags and a skip shift eliminator. But the real news is the new stereo.
The HU is an Alpine IVA-W200, I love the 2-din size and the touchscreen. It starts up using a PAC TR-7, and interfaces with the steering wheel using a PAC ALP-SWI. The heart of the system is the Alpine PXA-H701 digital processor. Speakers are Dynaudio: MD 100 tweeters in dash, MW 160 GT mids in doors, and MW 190 subs. Subs are installed in a stealth custom box where the back seat used to be. The car is fully Dynamatted. Amps are Sony ES's (4 x 100) and Infinity Class-D's (2 x 160) which I had lying around. I may upgrade the amps in the future, but the stereo sounds so good now, I am forced to upgrade my home stereo first.
Personal info: I was raised in central IL, but I currently live in Savannah. I am a EE who worked for Delphi Automotive for many years at Milford, MI. One of my projects was the LS1 TBC. After GM went to hell, I started working in the aircraft industry and haven't looked back. I do all my own car stereo installations, including the GTO which lasted 4 weeks. I have removed every panel on that car at least once. I am especially proud of the EQ curves I have developed using simple tools and a unique method which could be done by anyone.
Well that's me in a nutshell, sorry for the long post. Sorry no pictures, my X-GF took the camera. I'm looking forward to a meaningful relationship with GTO Forum, instead.
