Here's my thoughts. You are afraid of buying a battery and it not being the cause of the problem. Well you have a 4 year old car with the original battery. From this point forward you are on borrowed time with it anyhow. Sometime in the next year or so it's going to die and leave you stranded. Start with the battery and replace it. Keeping the old battery is just putting strain on the charging system and could end causing you to need an alternator.

Go fet an Opitma Gel battery. They are expensive, but will get you 6 good years instead of 4.

If you replace the battery and the problem keeps occuring, look to the starter. Also clean all your contacts on the grounds and such. After 4 years and a boat ride across salt water they probably need it.
