Here are a couple things to check that may help;

Pull the radiator hose off of the t-stat housing and see if the t-stat is upside-down, happened to mine. The spring should be on the bottom.

Measure the distance between the fan blades and the radiator fins, use a Mr. Gasket fan spacer (available from 1/2" to 2 1/4") and move the fan closer to the radiator. Fan Spacers can be found at your local auto parts store.

Did you get the pinging problem fixed?
