Nice car- It depends on the state- In Illinois they tax you based on the year, but then if they think it is worth more than the years taxes would allow, they tax you based on the purchase price- Check with a local currency exchange. That's how I did it, I called them, they told me the rules, and most will work with you and give you the taxing brackets based on the amount you paid. They don't care if you lie, but I'd get on the same page with the seller- It's very stupid that they collect taxes twice on the vehicle, but that's the way it is- at least here in Illinois.
