If I take it up over 50mph it runs from 210-215. It does not overheat but is sluggish at that temp. I have replaced the thermostat and run with no thermostat, no change. New water pump, Vacuum advance is working fine, have a fan shroud, new fan clutch, and a 4 core desert cooler radiator. The engine has good coolant flow. I want to get it to run under 200 on the highway. The only other idea is to get a high performance alum radiator. Does anyone think it is the radiator? Other suggestions?

Hello all,

I'm hoping to get some help and opinions.

I have always loved the 1967 GTO. It's been my dream car for...well, forever.

I have a chance to buy a 1967 LeMans that has the GTO 400 engine in it. I'm told by the owner's wife that it has a new engine in it and the only real issue is that it needs the lower control arms replaced.

The body has some, what initially appears to be minor rust and paint bubbles.

The asking price is $5,000.

I have a mechanic whom I trust and will definitely have him put the car up on the rack and give it a good once over.

So.... My initial questions are::

1. Is this a fair price for a "sort of GTO clone"?
2. How much will it cost to have the control arms replaced? (I've priced the parts online but there is a fairly large range in prices)
3. Are there any trouble spots or problems that I should be extra careful to check for?

I don't know too much about the car yet. I won't be able to speak to the actual owner until Monday. His wife was home today, but didn't know a whole lot other than it has a new 400 engine in it and the control arms are shot.

Thank you in advance for your help and patience.

PN

Hi Everyone,

So I have a 1968 GTO Tri-carb...beautiful and amazing car. I have been having a really hard time tracking down what exactly the exterior is supposed to be. Looking at the Data plate it says:
ST 68-24237: 68, Pontiac, GTO, 2 Door hardtop.
TR 25 B80: Red
Body BF01364
Paint RC: Solar Red, Ivory Cream

The data plate does not say anything about a vinyl top.
I am just confused because looking close at the white top, some of the paint is strangely textured and looks as though it had glue on it at one point, implying that there was a vinyl top or should be one on it. There was two owners before me and the one I bought the car from does not recall there being a vinyl top on it at any point.
There is also a metal/chrome trim going from the window across the car to the back by the window trim which looks standard on vinyl tops but not normal paint schemes.
I also cannot find any pictures of a 1968 GTO with a Red/Ivory color scheme anywhere on forums/google searches.

Posted below are pictures of the car I took which highlight the data plate and chrome trim I was talking about.

If anyone knows anything please let me know!

Thanks.

Hi guys.

Im pretty new here and have a fair amount of cash and want my dream car, being a 67.

Only issue is ive not had a classic before, and dont know a vast amount about it.

The only real info i know is it was called "The Great One" after pontiac stopped the tiger promotion at the end of 66.

What models in the 67 range were there, and what engine specs did they have?

Being in England I would obviously prefer a stickshift model, so please just post the info for those (if different, but i asume they just changed gearboxes/transmitions).

Also, what do you guys consider to be the "Best" 67 Model out of the bunch, how do the engines run and feel, and what sort of power are we looking at?

Oh, and what additions can you make to them in order to unleash more power out of the stock engines?

Quite afew questions i know but i like reading and want to know as much as possible before i purchase one, and obviously, you guys are the most knowledgeable people about, so any info would be much appriciated.

Thanks.

Well I will avoid the looong story about this car and just say that I have finally relocated it after it being out of my control for over 15 years !! I still own this old GTO but it has been sitting outside for the past 15 yrs +. It was in half decent shape 15 yrs ago but I'm sure by now it is no longer. I hope to see the car next week to get a look at what it has become.

I also own a '67 GTO that I am working on now. I would like to sell the '72 to help fund my effort on the '67. So I was wondering...I have been looking on line and can not find hardly any 72 GTOs for sale. I know there were not a heck of a lot of 72s made to begin with. I never see any 72s GTOs at car shows. The car has the original engine and trans etc. Do you think I will get more $$$ parting it out (I know , I know you all want to kill me for even suggesting that) or just selling it whole. The problem is I have NO idea what to ask for it since I can not find any 72 GTOs for sale that are in rough condition. Do I ask $8,000.00 or $800.00 ???????

sooooo...any ideas?.....thoughts??? OFFERS?? lol
thanks
