1969 Rear 1/4 Emblem(s)

Question to the experts:

I see two different Pontiac emblems on the 69 GTO's.
1) The vertical pontiac emblem like on the 1968 models
2) The horizontal GTO emblem (not decal) on most 69 models

Is the emblem #1 a carryover from 1968 until some point in production during 1969?

Thanks

I've never seen '68 rear quarter markers on a '69. I'm guessing the fenders on the '69 you saw were from a '68. I've see front valances from a '68 on a '69. Doors from a '69 which don't have the wing windows on a '68. Not sure why people mess with that stuff. Guess they like the combination look. '69 should have the verticle rear quarter markers. They're actually lites on both.

Sorry, messed up. '69 should have "horizontal" markers like the ones you mainly see.

I've just been studying up and Googling 1969 GTO. Looking at many pictures. I suppose that it IS possible that someone installed 68 1/4's on a 69 during a resto. I'll keep looking for more examples.

Thanks!!!!
Brett

I think I may have figured it out. I was looking at the Parking Lot site.

The 69 Tempest/Lemans cars have the 68 style emblem. So....if someone uses a Tempest for a GTO clone or ???, it will have the 68 emblem unless they change that characteristic.

'68 had the "arrow" and '69 had the the lense that looked like the GTO/6.5 litre emblem. If look at any of the parts suppliers, their fenders look as I described. There's not an "If it's an early '69 use the '68 fender" clause. Stranger things have happend tho.... But, that's the fun of rebuilding too. Researching and figuring this stuff out! If you find something contrary, Brett, let us know!!

Great call Brett! That would be a quick way to spot a clone b/4 verifying with the V.I.N. This hobby is a never ending learning process........
