2nd old question from the newby

Thanks guys for all the input so far. If it isn't too much to ask, I'd like a little information on what to look for in the way of specific issues with the 65 GTO. I figure the obvious as far as rust behind the wheel wells, and wreck history, but what other problems are they known for? Rust around windows, and problems with leaks? The car in question is 10 hours away and my son will be taking photos (aren't digital cameras great!) for me to look over before I pull the trigger and decide to get it. I had a couple of 68's back in the late 70's and am familiar with some Pontiac basics, but every bit of information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Look for rust or leaking around both the front and back glass. Look for water leaking into the trunk which would indicate a leaking rear window. Maybe look for rust along the roof drip rail which may indicate the car was a vinyl top car in the past. The chrome tail panel you can not find aftermarket either, so check the condition of the chrome on that piece. If it needs to be rechromed, that can cost a bit much. Other then that, the `65s are a sweet car! I love the body size compaired to the 6s and 7s. Good luck on your search!

Maybe post the city the car is located in and a member local to the car can check it out for you first hand. I will NEVER buy another vehicle long distance without it being looked at. If it is being advertised as numbers matching or original and the price reflects that, those numbers need to be verified too. The frames trap moisture in some of the bends and can rust out. The floor and trunk pans may have already been replaced.Look for repairs on the frame, evidence of floor repair etc. etc. The car is 43 years old. Look it over closely.
Good Luck.........
