My New 67 GTO

Here is my new to me 67 gto. I had a well respected restorer look it over before I purchased it. I paid 13k for it. It is very solid with no bondo according to him. I ran the phs on the car. All the car needs is a paint job. How much should I spend on paint and how do I find out if the motor and trans are #'s matching. My restorer said it was a 67 block and heads but how do I know if original..

Thanks for all the he over the last 3 weeks....Mike

Also, new plates will say GOATYUP

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your purchase! Looks very nice!
Send the vin # to Pontiac Historical Services and they will send you a packet including all the equipment the car was built with. Depending on your location and how much of the work you can do yourself, you could be looking at like 2-6,000.00 for a paint job. Nice plates too!

Nice car! PHS docs, also, info on the web will give you the info on the engine casting codes. The date code is by the distributor, and the application code is on the left front of the engine block, right below the pass. side head and next to the iming cover. It will be a 2 letter code, like "YS" or "WT". As for paint, you get what you pay for. The car looks good as is to me, but I'm not looking in person. If you want it cherry, prepare to spend 7 to 12 thousand on a good refinish. BTW, for what you paid, you STOLE the car. Where are all the 10k--15k goats around HERE?
Good luck, and again, congrats!

The motor has a 5 or 6 digit code under the letter code on the front of the block, the billing history from the PHS reports will list the engine unit number. Those numbers will match.

As far as the transmission, there will be a julian date code stamped on the side of the transmission. Compare that date code to the engine and car's build dates. They should be around 3 to 10 days between the dates.

Congrats on your purchase. You already got a good deal and if it is numbers matching you got a steal and the seller must be an idiot!!

I would just enjoy the car the rest of the summer and fall. By the winter you may find other things you want to do before painting. You don't want to spend a bundle on a paint job if you plan to drive/cruise the car alot. Paint prices will vary from area to area. An average paint job in my area would be 12k-15k, while I have met people in the Ohio, Illinois area that spent 5k less for the same quality paint job.
