I installed my msd kit wich included coil box and distributor. I then go to start the motor and for some reason everything runs good but ever 30 seconds it goes POP and just keep popping every 30 seconds then i go inside the car to turn in off and the car dosent turn off.... I turn the key to off but the car still runs. This is on a pontiac gto. What is going on? I was told maybe the distributor is bad but i just got in brand new from summit. Help please
On the poping I would double check the firing order, and on the key, not sure why, and I don't have to do it anymore, but for a while I had to turn the key past 'off' to 'Acc' and then it would turn off. Don't know why.
I think if you read the instructions it will mention something about a resister to put in the wire for externally regulated alternators or some sheet.
On the poping, it shouldn't be doing any.

Actually, thinking about it now, that having to turn it past 'off' stopped when I swapped out the battery and voltage regulator. Possibly a voltage regulator would do the trick?
Ok thanks im going to try and replace and add those. People are telling me there was a recall on the mallory distributor and that it could just be that because before the car would run just fine.
It dosent say anything about a resistor anywere in the book. the car was running perfect before everything is installed correctly so im guessing the distributor is bad or the box. i dunno
Again, I would just put the points distributor and coil back in and run the MSD with the white wire to the points instead of the two wire harness to the electronic MSD distributor.
