This question may be stupid but it is legit. Looking at the pictures of these Cold Air Intakes, they show the intake end of the device sitting where the airbox once was. OEM airboxes usually pull in air from a source outside the engine compartment so as not to breath in the super hot air from under the hood. By these CAI's sitting under the hood and therefore sucking air in directly from the engine compartment wouldnt that already exacerbate the LS2's hot air performace problem? Where exactly is the performance gain taken from?
The aftermarket CAIs for these new GTOs, especially for '05s, are sadly nothing more than very minor improvements on the factory designs. They're nothing like the proven-gains F-car/LS1 setups we're all used to seeing.
CAIs for '05/LS2 GTOs? Right now you're looking at paying upwards of $200 for nothing more than a K&N cone filter and a flimsy heat shield of some sort, nothing more, and hoping it's working to your advantage. Sadly, the design of the factory hood and engine compartment layout makes it very difficult for any aftermarket engineer to come up with something markedly better than the factory air intake.
So far, what might actually be best for these engines in the GTO is a reversed intake manifold/throttle body setup(TB located at rear of engine) and a cowl hood. After all, the current CAI/aftermarket "ram air" setups so far are providing very little real results, if any. Claiming 10-20 horsepower gains with a CAI when we all know that the temperature-finnicky LS2 will pull timing on a few degree whim randomly at any time of day? Get real. No aftermarket bolt-on improvement results at all can be established, let alone claims of "proven" gains, until a real tune is out for the LS2. But, it's your money, so...
Now am I the only guy with an LS2 that does not have any problems performance wise then it is hot and humid as hell out side?
As far as a CAI go, when something comes out that we can tune with I will post a link for a CAI that on average dynoes 18-25 RWHP over K&N and other CAI's but first we have see what kind of gain we get.
Before the GTO, I had a heavily modified Crown Vic. The Vic dyno'd at 284hp rear. I bought a K&N for it and it did 15.2 in the qtr. When I took it off and put the stock box back on, it did 15.0.
The best CAI for that car was a hole that I cut out in the lower end of the box. Made a big difference in the SOP dyno.

HEH! I think the problem is the difference between your idea of hot and humid up there in VA and mine here in FL. Hot and humid is 90% humidity and 92*F.
I have been to FL several times and from what I can tell it is not any more humid down there than it is here, from what I can tell it stays around 90-95f and any where from 80-90% humidity with thunderstorms in the evenings. But im alwayse up for a road trip, I may end up having to go down to Ft Meyers this summer anyhow.
