New to the community, as well as to the GTO World (in fact, Monday is my pickup date for my T-Red 05).
Anyways, I sort of had to "take what I could get" with this one, so like most '05s it has the hood with the scoops. Frankly, I hate the look of it and greatly prefer the '04 hood.
So, do you have a Torrid Red GTO with a scoopless hood, live in the NY/NJ/CT /PA area, and want to do an even swap? If yours is in mint shape (no swirl marks or rock chips) and the right color, let's set something up. Even if we have to meet somewhere in the middle with a couple blankets and a box full of tools, I'm game.
Reply, PM or E-mail me if any of you are interested.
Thanks, and I look forward to some good discussions on this board.
I have an '04 Impulse Blue hood, zero miles on it, I would be willing to swap for an '05 hood with scoops. I live in upstate NY and would be willing to meet half way. I have a van to transport the hood.
Good to see that there is someone else out there that preferes the plainer look. I wanted the new hood at first but soon became fond of the "less is more look"
Thanks for the interest all, the deal was sealed this morning and my car is now scoop-less.
I know that 95% of the people on this board think I am a raving lunatic for "de-scooping" my Goat, but in my mind the car is and always will be a Monaro. Putting hood scoops on it to as a means to throw it back to the original GTO in my opinion was sort of "the American way" of adding more and more 'stuff' to the point where the purity was lost, all for the sake of making aesthetic ties to the original on a car never designed as such. Just look at the front end of the WS6 Trans Ams - they kept adding vents when there was no space left to add them, and the thing is a cluttered mess all the way around.
It's my opinion that reinstating a nameplate should carry the utmost qualities of its predecessor - hood scoops were what defined GTOs as GTOs? Hardly. In 1964, they were introduced as unassuming powerhouses - "wolves in sheeps clothing" as you will. Obviously as the 60s wore into the seventies the aesthetics were pushed, but I am getting off track.
Bottom line is, the beauty of these Monaros in my opinion is their very understated exterior. My "PONTIAC" and "6.0" badges are gone, and as soon as I pull together a few bucks the wing is getting removed and plugged. Look like your average coupe? To some, sure. But as soon as you leave the light spinning the tires through first and second gears, it becomes quite obvious that this 'old lady car' is hiding something serious under the hood.
That's my two cents on that, folks.

Hey you like what you like. At least you had the good taste to buy a GTO! I have to agree that you can overdo it with scoops and flares and whatnot, but I do like the hood scoops on mine better than without. The main thing is that you like it. So, congratulations and enjoy!
