Chevy truck LT-1 & mods!

I was on my way to Whataburger for one of those late night taquido cravings down here in Mississippi at around midnight. I was heading up 49 and some white chevy races up next to me and matches speeds & starts reving his engine. I was on the phone with the lady friend, but immediately told her I needed to flirt with the truck instead. (not in those words exactly of course, she works at a 1/4mile track, so she understands the need for speed, mmm... she's so sexy)

I figured even though his exhaust sounded bad@$$ he probably didn't have enough to keep up, so being the retard that I am gave him a little headstart when he hit the gas, much to my surprise, he took off pretty fast! I actually had to catch up. We pulled into a gas station, each took a look under eachother's hoods, exchanged compliments, etc. I found out he had an LT-1 with a few bolt-ons, a 4.10 differential, and drag radials. We decided to race back down 49 and do a few runs from 40mph, and one from a dead stop. On the rolling starts I pulled on him a little, but from the stop he took me completely. I have cheap street tires btw, and I'm not very good at takeoff. The results were obvious, I need to practice my takeoff, and I should probably invest in better tires at some point

The story doesn't end there however, since the lights on 49 showed no indication of turning red, we stopped at a green light for our stop&go race. There was a car behind us, but we didn't think anything of it. Well, it turned out to be a cop. I saw him pull the truck over. I felt really bad letting him take the fall for our race, so I turned around and pulled over with the truck. The cop actually turned out to be really cool, once he found out I was active duty Air Force, and that we weren't just some retard highschool kids with roadrage and alcohol, he was cool with us. We actually chatted with the cop for a few minutes... this is the first time I ever met a cop this cool. I was in shock!!! Especially in a military infested area like the gulf coast!

I suppose the moral of this story is... have fun with your car, be responsible, and if you get pulled over, take it like a man, and don't let somebody else take the fall for your fun.

Was it a S-10 or a full size? Im assuming it was a S-10 and yes you have to watch for those who have put a V8 in them. They are some bad trucks, mainly because they are so light weight. My dad had a '89 S-10 and put a V8 in it and it was a bad ass truck. Had a hard time getting traction though.

Yea it was an S-10, and it was riding really low. He bought it broken for $4,500 and spent about $10,000 rebuilding it (including the LT-1). I'm not sure how much they weigh, but he claimed it weighed around 3,500lbs, and with that 4.10 gear ratio, it makes for a very interesting race! It's always nice running into somebody on the road that honestly just wants to have a good time racing without being stupid or trying to prove he has the biggest ballz on the road.

He honestly had no clue, he was just guessing. I didn't know either. If they are indeed 2800lbs or even 3000, that's insane!!! No wonder he was so quick, definately not something to take lightly on the road.
