so in 99 Ford began building their own aluminum blocks which fit the bill for production motors, but the WAP blocks will only hold 600-1000 hp depending on who you talk to. These blocks came in Explorers, Cobra Mustangs 99-01 and in the Mach1 Mustangs.Ford was worried about these blocks holding up in the 03-04 cobra's so they switched back to a cast iron block.
I don't think that's true. Most 96 to 98 SVT Cobra owners boast at the fact that their cars have the Teksid motor, and the 03/04 Cobra's do not. As far as the durability between the two, see the excerpt.
Ford decided to use an iron block in the 03/04 cobra's for a couple of reasons.
1. The WAP aluminum block was the only one still in production and is very weak in the main web area.
2. Ford engineers fvcked up (who woulda thought? ) when they decided to put a blower on the engine, without running coolant to ALL cylinders. The aluminum POS WAP block couldn't withstand the extra heat in the cylinder 7 and 8 area and would warp, time and time again.
This wasn't the fault of the block, it was from the incompetent morons that work at Ford. It also didn't help with the fact that Ford no longer serviced a decent working aluminum block either. They could no longer afford Teskid to make their blocks, and the windsor aluminum plant had no idea how to make one. The WAP block is very poor, and should never be considered.
Non Ford engineers got it right with the aluminum 5.4 block found in the Ford GT. I own this particular block, and it's one of the best production block EVER made.
Last column all the way to the right, to the bottom. Download the AVI clip on the Mach I from C&D and hear what they say. They did make a mistake saying that the engine was pulled from the 95 SVT Cobra (couldn't be because that was a 5.0 Liter engine). They meant to say 96 SVT Cobra.
How did a Ford Shelby GT VS GTO thread turn into a history of Ford engines thread?
It started here:
Hmmmm..... After doing some research, it looks like it is a drivers race between the two cars. That's funny because Ford pulled the motor out of the 1996 SVT Cobra and put it in the 03/04 Mach I.
Whats weird is that some people have stated that their stock S197 Mustang beat a stock Mach I.
Hmmmm.....
You're right though, I'll let this thread get back to its original topic.
Well having owned a 99 and 01 cobra, the only mustang that I would like to buy in the future is an 03-04 cobra, wouldn't even think about the mach 1 lol

I'd be scared to buy a 03/04 Cobra from anybody. I think most people have run them into the ground. Mine isn't stock anymore, but I don't drag race at all. Hence this summer will be my first trip to the track.
If everything goes as planned, I'll be strapping on a KB in May. I plan to run a 300CSRT8 before, and after the KB.
