Got worked by truck

OK So I am going home last night in my old T/A. I see a Sierra Denali pull up next to me on the right, which I admire becasue the guy had it lowered two inches and had some nice racing rims on it. He was also admiring my car. Well he rolls down his window and says he want to run.

"Sure why not" was my normal reply.

We take off and he absolutley leaps off the line, AWD. Pulling an immediate 1 car lead on me. Since we both have autos there is little skill involved here. I proceed to watch this trck pull 5 lengths on me and then slows back down.

At the next light I olitley say "Pull over man I want to see what the Hell is in there"

We pull into a gas station and the dude has a Maggie on his Vortec 6.0. He also had a CAM and new fuel injectors. Jesus!!!!!

He said he dynoed at 425hp to the wheels!!! Mind you the damn truck weighs 5000lbs stock.

He said his next project is to lighten the tank up some. But man oh man. Wish I was driving my GTO. I would have still lost. But not by 5 cars.

425 to the wheels = 500 crank + 5000lbs same as 350hp +3600lbs and less than 400hp+3600lbs

He would have gotten you at the line and you would have taken him up top (aerodynamics), unless he was fudging the hp numbers or was spraying which most maggies guys do..

Thats what I thought. But I raced my T/A with my dad triving the Trans Am and I only beat him by about two lenghts when all was said and done.

So I dunno if the guy was just an idiot or what.

I do know the truck sounded awesome when he was taking off. All four tires squealed and the truck hopped.

425AWHP = 500 Crank HP? I doubt it, especially with an automatic. Auto's are usually closer to 20% drivetrain loss so just that alone would give him 530 crank HP. Also add in that it's AWD so he's gotta be at least 25% drivetrain loss giving him more in the range of 565 crank HP!
Truck 8.85hp/lbs.
GTO 9.5hp/lbs.
Plus truck will launch better and since both are auto, no real advantage/disadvatage there, so I'd still says truck wins from a dig. And the T/A didn't stand a chance either if stock.

Yeah, you need to watch out for some trucks these days. I know from experience. Before the gto I had a Ram SRT10 (viper truck). 500 hp, 525tq. I made it look a little subtle (silver and black accents here and there). Only work done to it was custom suspension and short throw. The truck was fast and not too many people knew what it was. It was fun surprising them. But I also owned a 95 Yukon GT with approx 375 hp at the wheels .... all motor and 4wd still entact. All I can say is ..... you never know what your REALLY against.

Those Rams are hella fun to drive. But at 8mpg on highway I could not handle that, even as a weekend warrior.

So they make those SRT10's in AWD?

"Feeling" "Seems" etc is all subjective..
Without actual track numbers its all conjecture..
My GTO seems slow to me when I drive it..
track numbers indicate otherwise..

That being said, anything can be made fast with enough money..
There are 8000lb crew cab diesel duallies running 11s and 12s..
All it takes is green..
