I love the fact that the GTO is underrated/underestimated! One of my favorite things in the world is to pull up to a stoplight next to a mustang owner, positively SMOKE him and watch him totally ignore me at the next stoplight, or seeing that stunned look of ignorance on their face. That is PRICELESS! It's even BETTER if they have a cute girl with them in the car. The poor mustang owner probably feels like an ass of immense proportions.
*LOTS* of people figure the GTO is slow because it's a fairly large car and it's not super-aggressive in the styling department. When I say "400 horsepower and 400 ft/lb of torque", their mouths drop open. I don't know if they're just too stupid to comprehend that there are many cars out there faster than their precious mustangs, or they don't care. Either way, it makes life more interesting for me.
I drove the mustang before I drove the GTO. Thank god I drove the GTO before going ahead and getting the Mustang GT. There is really no comparison. The GTO was better in every aspect, the fact that it smokes mustangs at will was just a huge bonus in my opinion.
As for the back and forth war between GM/Ford, that'll never end until one company or the other goes under and/or stops making vehicles. There is no "correct" answer and no matter how delicately you put it, you'll always get some jerk who comes along and tells you how wrong you are, listing a dozen stupid reasons why he's right and how your car is pathetic compared to his. So I don't even bother to argue with people about it. The GTO is what *I* wanted, it suits ME perfectly, if someone else wants to drive a slower car, that's his/her right to do so. I'm not the type of person who would force my beliefs on anyone and I expect the same courtesy to be extended to me. Essentially, as long as they don't bother me, I won't bother them...I think that's about the fairest way to do it...agree to disagree...because that's usually the best case scenario in any argument about GM vs Ford.

They are just trying to make themselves feel better because they drive a slower car. At least most of the guys in that forum admit the 05/06 GTO is faster than the new GT.

I should post over there describing how my stock GTO smoked a new Mustang GT at BMP. It wasn't even close.

I also love how they keep bringing the 03/04 Cobra into the picture. Most the guys drive Mustang GTs and they keep saying the 03 Cobra is a better car than the GTO. Isn't it 2006?
