Ok, here's the deal: I want to race my car at the strip, but before I do that I need to know if, first: will the warranty cover anything I break (i seriously doubt it) and secondly and most important: will it be covered by insurance if it is wrecked while racing?? I have Allstate, but I am not sure about their policy when it comes to racing. I am sure it won't be covered, but I am just curious, because there are a lot of people who race really expensive cars and what happens if they total it? Are they s*** out of luck?

Huh, read your policy. Most policies state that racing is a no no. As a matter of fact, a lot of health plans address it as hazardous activities. As for your GM warranty.... ever hear the term ABUSE.

Your warranty will not cover racing. I already checked this out. The guy that purchased the GTO I had ordered, but canceled because it took too long getting here, told the dealer he planned on taking it to the strip. Even BEFORE the wear in recommendations was up. He was warned if he did, the warranty would not cover it. The guy even told the dealer he was going to do it.... Now if he was a mechanical warranty claim, he's gonna have a hard time getting anything done covered. That was an out for the dealer. Even if it isn't race related, the dealer will question it. He should have kept his yap shut.

Guess it would be kind of hard to explain why ya threw a rod, or blown pistons, etc. etc. doing 65 on a highway.

I have Erie Insurance and in my policy it says racing will not be covered in an event of a claim pertaining to racing.

For insurance companies, racing is pretty much never covered in any way.

For warranty coverage... there really aren't many vehichles in the world whose warranty will cover them through racing. Even the ones that do, though, aren't covered for very much. The new Z06's warranty says it's covered for "occasional track use". By that what they really mean is it's only covered if you're doing 1/4 runs, and you're not racing against anyone while doing it.

To be "safe" about it, just consider it as if ANY damage done to your car at the track will NEVER be covered in any way. It makes things much more simple that way.

I can understand the insurance bit, maybe you can get a policy rider through your agent if they offer such a thing. But what I dont understand is the warranty. If you are on the track and you break an axle or blow a gear, why wouldnt you have it towed into the dealer? If you tell them you broke it at the drags, well.............. you deserve to pay. Me?, all mechanical failures happen "when I downshifted and depressed the accelerator pedal all the way down to overtake the vehicle I was passing, as per the operating instructions". "I have never even seen a drag place, or race strip or whatever it was you called it...sir." "Dont even know where one is".

It would be awesome if it worked that way... but they have the discretion to decide whether or not you've actually been racing (it doesn't necessarily have to be at a DRAG strip). Unfortunately it can be seemingly easy to find out so also... like they can check those deep recesses in the wheel well for burned rubber and just little things that show abusive use. This is also all a matter of how stubborn your dealer is too. If they're nice they'll do it almost no-matter what, because GM pays them to do it anyway. If you have a stiff dealer though, they may not be so forgiving
