Last minute drag race.....

Ok, I just need some last minute advice, Our local track has decided to open up for one day (because the weather has been good) and tomorrow is it. I have never drag raced before but I seen a bunch of them and read a lot about drag racing ie: I know how the light works, stage and pre-stage, water box, etc.... What I need to know is little secrets like tire pressure, launching techniques, What does the launching area feel like? Sticky or just like regular asphalt?, etc.... I just dont want to look like a fool out there. not me! The GTO!!! thanks for your help...... (a little nervous)

I see ya have a 6 speed. What tires are ya going to run...DR's or stock? 17 or 18 "? Launching procedures are not too difficult. With a M6 and DR's ya may wanna try leaving around 1800-2000 rpm's.This is to give you a base line. Make notes as far as what car likes in regards to launching rpm's.. In other words , play with it. I have always found that its best to experiment in the beginning to see what happens as far as 60' times are concerned. Tire pressures are in same category as experimenting will come into play here also. Proper burnount,is always helpful. Don't fry the tires. Pull around water box, back car into water, rear tires only, move forward an inch or 2 to get drivetrain moving forward again, spin them slightly to get them wet, pull out of water, then do burn out. Adjust your outside mirror so you can keep an eye on tire smoke. Once they have lit and are smoking for a couple of seconds, let off , overdone tires can hurt you. Remember you're not runnin' a slick...!!! Leave when the last Yellow light is staring at ya. After that .....hold on to your a$$. Should be a nice ride....

19-20 lbs in the stock rear tires. Remove the spare tire and all things that go with it. 1/4 tank of gas at the most. Depending on the prep of the track you will want to start at 2000 rpms and work your way up. At my local track I could launch at 3200 but on unprepped days no more then 2000. Never want to bog. A little spin is better then bogging. Also, no clutch drops. It's more like a knee jerk. Feather/slip if needed!

Have fun.

Why 1/4 tank of gas, Will a few gallons of fuel really make that much difference?

UPDATE: Drag day

We'll I got good news and bad news, Good news is: I had an awesome time Sat, my first time drag racing. bad news is: a gopher bit through the 1/4 mile timeing lights the night before and all we had was our 1/8th mile and 1000' times. We were still racing to the 1/4 mile but our 1/4 mile times were not recorded. I think I did pretty good. I beat a C4 Corvette ZO6, I got sick of beating Mustangs (except a 03 COBRA with a supercharger), an 04 GTO (my buddy's) It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of friendly people. I was pretty consistant throughout the day, here is one of my time slips. Let me know what you guy's think.

Your comments will be greatly apprieciated Thanks

Good R/T, 60 ft. could be a bit quicker. Traction issues maybe?
