Newb Loses to C5??

Okay, so C5 convertible tails me about a car length behind wanting to play. I don't bit. I'm a newbie GTO driver still feeling my way. I've had my goat for about 3 weeks.

He tears out of the lane down the right side and drops to cruise speed. I drop out of my lane and in behind him about a car length waiting for him to run. First I already knew that was a no no given how closely matched these two cars are but I wanted to just have fun anyway.

He doesn't bite so I return the favor and do my own fly by.

I catch a light up down the road as the vette was almost out of sight back there. I roll up to the front line next to a Acura TL (new one) he wants to play but I don't bite to hard but I do a rather firm launch from the light anyway.

Lo and behold the vette dude sneak attacks and jumps out from behind a few cars and in behind me. Well given that the TL was an easy pull that leaves a big space for the C5 to just pass through. One moment I just pulling easy on the TL the next moment the C5 grabs the opening and blazes by and I'm now trying to switch the powerband for the corvette instead. I'm caugh off guard then fumble my gears and blow the redline.

C5 dude pulls the breaks and gives me the head shake. LOL. I just let it go. No use in explaining he scaredy cat move.

Plus I is humid as all out doors here. I had my windows up and the AC blowing big time.

Interesting.

Oh... I did take down a Mach 1 'Stang and a (yes I admit it) a Chrysler 300 that kept bothering me. It wasn't even a 300C but the guy thought he had the goods so I let him have it.

I wouldn't worry about the loss. That was a cheap move by the Vette. The only thing I would worry about is you did a flyby, a big no no. Don't stoop to his level. Obviously, he doesn't play fair, but keep your dignity. Good luck next time!

Not sure why you named the thread "Newbie Loses to C5" , you didnt lose. Doesnt sound to me like you had a race! Dont let it discourage you, the one thing I love about this car is that your win to loss ratio will almost certainly always be in your favor.

Your so right on that one. I don't do fly by's and I should not have done it this time. :-) Definitely not the dignified response. Thanks!

Hey JM...yeah, that's why I threw the question marks at the end because, well it was a rather awkward challenge of sorts. LOL.

But thanks, addmittely I was a bit irritated by his smug head shaking as if to say "can't touch this!" since there no "terms" agreed upon non-verbal or otherwise.

Of course, in addition to not making it even, he wouldn't look at me or strike up a conversation. Go figure.

However, I am quite content with the GTO win to loss ratio!

I agree with JM, not much of a race if this guy did a fly-by while you were screwing around with someone else. I know how you feel about putting the Acura in it's place. I was getting on the highway Friday night and kicked it b/c someone was on my ass, after I got on the h/w I got next to some riced out Mitsu, after passing him he did a fly-by on me so I slammed it in 3rd and just left him like he was going backwards.

You might could have beat him straight up (your sig says stock) as it was a Vert and probably an A4; it would have been a driver's race. Power to weight is better on most C5s and the aerodynamics as well.
I wouldn't worry about it, regardless, the cars are totally designed for different purposes (sports car vs grand touring) and the GTO is a better general purpose car.
I may have to sell one of my cars when I move in the near future and, though the Z06 can't be matched for SIGs, I will most likely sell it and keep the GTO.
