How is it that I own a "stage 3", so to speak STi and have never heard of anybody on my Suby forum using any of these turbos like the t3/t4 or the garret 20? Sure the garret gt30r or gt35r or evern the gt42r are some huge rotated mount turbos that lots of guys, use but not the garrett 20. The smallest stock mount turbo I've heard of anyone using, and it was for a strictly auto x build, was an 18g. lots of guys use the 20g, but it takes race gas/meth to hit anywhere near 400wheel. Tons of 50 trim turbos, like mine, the SZ49, or the FP Green, etc. and a few big stock locations like the SZ55 or FP Red. The Blouch Dom series turbos that people just started using are pretty nice, but I don't know much about them.

edit: I checked into the t3/t4 turbos and found out why nobody uses them. They are pretty much cheap ebay turbos that would take way to much fabbing to get to bolt up, not to mention they are not as efficient as our plethora of bolt on turbos.

the 16g and 20g turbos are used on the solstice aftermarket turbo kits and put out a ton of power, and DO NOT need meth to put out impressive numbers. a 20g on a 2.4 ecotec can put out neer 400 horse at the flywheel without any problem. hahn has the cobalts putting out 440whp with them. so yes, they can put out a ton of power.

I had a 02 wrx with an EJ207 swap. JDM STi Engine and tranny transplant. 18G is a common size upgrade for the 2.0. 20G is almost for drag only on the 2.0, good for autocross and tracking on the 2.5. FP green is good for 450-500whp with alcohol injection.

My friend had an 06 with an FP green, and it spun all four tires until 3rd gear. Stupid fast. I have to say, that even my 2.0, on stock WRX turbo and injectors was pulling on SRT8's on the freeway. Now... I had all kinds of other goodies, but it shouldn't surprise any of you to get handled by a modded STi.

The GTO really begins to shine in 3rd gear, and should easily take any STi, WRX, and MR evo.

Now... a word of caution here. The 5 speeds will pull incredibly hard until about 130. I had RA gears that had a huge 1st (47mph) and short 2-5. Redlined 5th at 143mph, but it pulled like a freightrain. A lot of evo owners will swear by the GSR tranny, as it pulls harder up top, and in the quarter mile. So the bottom line is that if the guy knows what he's doing, has a good tuner, he can walk on Lambo LP640's until triple digit speeds, at which point drag co-efficient, and torque/HP will be the deciding factor. Before some of you call BS, know that I have friends with modded STi's, Evo's, and one with a LP640 who's at the butt end of their jokes.

I'm a little surprised you pulled on SRT-8 on the freeway. I'm not saying you didn't but curious to your other goodies. I've taken GTO's at the drag strip at stage 2, but it took the turbo upgade to walk one from a roll.

Power mods on the WRX were....

JDM EJ207 STi Motor (Stock WRX injectors, fuel pump, and turbo)
Ecutek tune by Harman Motive
Perrin FMIC
Perrin Short ram intake
HKS Up-pipe
GodSpeed Downpipe (4") Not the ebay one. The real Godspeed, before he becaome "tuning factory" or something.
Injen SES Exhaust (3" mandrel)
STi RA Gearcase Transplant. RA Ratio's... really short. It pulled until 5th gear redline around 140mph.
Samco Turbo Inlet Pipe.

4G63's were amazing motors. DSM's were easily hitting 10's in the quarter with bolt-ons. My friend's evo MR, with exhaust intake and intercooler... no tune... ran a 12.3 at LACR. That converts to high 11's at sea level. These things are ridiculously quick.... but not fast. By fast I mean top end. Every AWD wonder I've seen so far... and that's many... don't have what it takes to hang in the 100mph+ club. I'm proven correct everytime I challenge someone to come out to a track day and show me otherwise. Unless it's a fully built race-car, they simply don't make enough tq/hp to be a serious threat at high speeds. I hit high 150's almost 160 before turn 1 on the front straight at Fontana. My Subie couldn't go that fast because of gearing. Any gain made would be completely lost at 115-120. I'd be a speck in the rear-view mirror. Now I'm the guy looking at the speck in the mirror...lol.

Subaru guys refer to their Turbo as TD04. T3/4 is similar in size... from what I remember as it's been a few years... and often confused as being the stock turbo, which it isn't. The correct OEM Turbo is a TD04 on the WRX. I think on the STi it was a TD05... all IHI Turbo's manufactured by..."Mitsubishi" lol. To be exact, they were "VF" series turbo's.

I always liked to assume that the VF stood for "very fast"...lol. The number game gets confusing as a VF 22 is larger than a VF 34, the VF 34 is larger still than the stock which...I could be wrong, was a VF 23/30. To make things worse.... the USDM Turbo's were often not the same as the JDM counterparts. Again, it's been a while, and I'm not certain on some of the number designations. VF's were stock turbo's used on various WRX/STi editions, and popular upgrades because of driveability and price. Either way... I'm so glad to have a V8 that I really haven't kept up with the mods and new parts for the Evo/STi world.

Honestly, what would you expect the outcome of a modded STi versus a "stock" GTO (no matter what year) to be? If I ran a stock STi with my mods do you think it would have a chance? And what model Z06 did you beat? Less than a week ago I beat a C5 Z06 by at least 5 car lengths from 80mph to 130mph. Was he modded? I don't know but it was an easy kill for me. If I was stock it would have been a different outcome especially once we got above 120 or so.
