My friend is getting this car and we were talking about me trying to keep up with him when im turboed and this summer we will see for sure but i should be hopefully putting down about 270whp and i think a stock gto puts down about 340 whp. i was wondering if you guys think hes gonna put buslengths on me or maybe i can keep up? i think it might be an interesting discussion.
Do the research, Stock to Stock, cobalt ss/sc is 14+ 1/4 GTO is like low 13. So with a turbo, maybe? but with the turbo lag on the cobalt by the time it kicks in the GTO will have been pulling hard, and as the cobalt struggles to put out enough exaust the GTO will continue to pull, 270hp doesn't mean much when you consider the power curve of that little engine, the GTOs power curve is pretty consitant. Could it be a close race, Ya? will the GTO win 10 of 10 times, More than likely.
He probably won't put buslengths on you, but I doubt it will be that close. I would say you might have a chance if you could drive better. I have seen some drivers lose almost a second to poor driving. Both cars being auto, driver ability doesn't really matter to much.
well i dont have the supercharged cobalt i have the naturally aspirated 2.4 with variable valve timing. the supercharged cobalt has a 2.0 so i should make more torque than them. i was hoping i could be competitive with the gto and not get super burnt. i love the gto, wish i could have afforded one but i introduced my friend to the gto cuz he didnt even know it existed. he was gonna get a wrx but now hes sold on the 6.0 gto
even if you do get wrecked, you can still say BOOSTIN! and make ur blow off valve go pshhh
I like the growl and purr of a goat, to the pshhh sound of a blow off valve, just me....
And BTW the extra torque won't help you at all... Unless you plan on getting better tires, its gonna hurt your launch. Thats a big issue with goat owners. Well at least low end torque, but again that turbo lag so it might not be an issue.

The GTO is just under 11lbs per hp stock. Your Cobalt will be at just over 11lbs per hp.
Using the above and factoring in turbo lag and the width of the GTO's power band versus the 2.4's power band, plus the traction issues high power frontdrive cars have, I'd put money on the GTO. If your friend can drive he'll be a 13.0-13.2 1/4 mile guy. If you can drive you'll be under 14.0. Not bus lengths, but decisive.
Catch him at 40-50, with your boost up and him in 2nd and you'll have a fun run to 70-75.
well, im hoping to not have any real turbo lag being that i am using a garrett ball bearing turbo gt2860rs i think so lag shouldnt be an issue. im just hoping to at least stay on his rear bumper and ill be happy
