Traction control VS no Traction control

If I want full 0-80mph capability should I turn off the TC. If I leave it on how much will it stop tire spin? Is it like the competition mode on the Vette that allows some tire spin but shuts it down when the car goes out of control? If I turn the control off will the tires just smoke. I am looking to buy a 2005 with 6M. Thanks...JIM

Right when the wheels start spinning the peddel kicks back at you. It is in no way a race mode.

I keep mine off everytime I get behind the wheel. There have been instances when I was tried by someone and went to give chase and didn't realize it was on. That sucks!

The system does not have a comp mode like the Vette.

With that said I did some testing with the traction control in my 05 GTO. The system seemed very loose to me and I almost thought it wasn't working. Here is what I found out at the drag strip. I did 6 runs, 3 with the traction control on and three with it off. My fastest time was with the traction control off. No suprise. My 2nd and 3rd fastest times were with it on. My 4th was with it off and the 5th was on. The slowest was off. The spread between the these times was less than .25. I don't remeber the exact times, but the traction control turned my car into a perfect bracket racer. My speeds were about a half MPH slower with traction control on.

My traction control on the GTO would let me spin lightly. I actually liked it and used it all the time on the street.

there's my .02.

Competition mode in the Vette turns off the TC but leaves the Active Handling on. If you are racing someone then usually the best thing to do is turn off the TC.

Thanks, that makes sense. I also have a 350Z and with the traction control on it totally takes away power when the tires start to slip and brings it back as soon as they stop. Times are way slower in the Z with the traction control on. Sounds like the GTO system is much different.

Thats what I love about the goat. It dosn't cut the power, it just pushes the peddel back at you. It does let you spin em a little though.

The 05 and 06 cut power they are drive by wire so when is sees tire spin I would assume the pcm retards timing and alters injector pulse.

No way, realy? That sucks. Just another reason I like my 04. Probably something to it though.

If your goal is max performance, leave it off. Just realize what you are doing. TC will cause your car to go flat on it's face if your tires spin.
