n00b needs some ?s answered

im looking to buy an 05 or 06 GTO in automatic (i know manual is better and more fuel efficient but traffic here suuucckkks)and just want to know a few things. first ive heard this rumor where you can get a chip to increase power by making your car take premium and in doing so increasing your mpg (if youre easy on the gas) because the ls2 runs more efficient on premium. is this true? second does the stock radio control anything about the car? like is it a computer of sorts like in some gm cars? or is it just a radio, im looking to building a carputer for my next car so just want to make sure that thing doesnt control anything important cause i want to junk it. and third which ill probably get bitched at for not using the search but what are the differences between the 05 and 06 models.

Well, I'll give this a shot.

1) There is no chip to replace to tune the car. Custom tuning is done by plugging tuning software into the OBDII port and re flashing the computer. Devices such as Diablo, and Predator are commonly used. You could also get a custom tune by a guy named Jeremy Formato. He has the reputation of being the God of the LS tuning. As far as tuning for premium fuel, the car is already set up for premium.

2) The stock stereo in the GTO is just a stereo. It is not intergrated into the car's computer like some other GM products. Just remember, it may say GM on it, but the GTO is an import, from Australia and is unlike anything GMNA ever made.

3) The differences between the 05/06 are minor. You get a door lock switch on the console, lighted steering wheel controls, and two new colors, Spice Red, and Brazen Orange. The biggest changes came between 04 and 05/06.

Hope that helps.

mac

Yes, they all run on premium.
I forgot to mention, the tail lights on the 06 are different. They are black, with clear lenses as opposed to all red.
Also, the 06 is supposed to have faster motors for the seat adjustment, and additional power outlet.
