Question for a friend!

I'm hoping someone can help my buddy out. He has a 2004 GTO with a manual tranny. His brother messed it up by putting oil in the clutch lines claiming that that's what's supposed to go in there! So anyways it's been sitting for a year now because he was told the Master and slave cylinder would have to be replaced and was quoted $2000 from a local mechanic. (not sure if that includes parts) Anyways I was wondering if it's that hard of a job? Just curious because that seems real expensive and to see it sitting there really depresses me lol. Any advice on how he can save it? I'm pretty sure DIY is out of the question. Any advice would be helpful thanks for your time

Oil reacts with brake fluid and everything rubber in the system swells up. Everything in the clutch system except the clutch itself will need to be replaced, clutch master cyl, slave cyl, and the lines between. Make the brother pay for it.

Thanks for the info. His brother is a deadbeat and won't admit to his failure so my friend has to front the cash to fix it. I was just hoping there might have been a better option for him. Thanks for your help...at least I know why it needs to be replaced now lol

If you guys are able to drop the tranny yourselves, you should be able to do the job.

$2000 is outrageous. It's a DIY job. Apparently the brother is illiterate too and can't read the cap he unscrewed on the reservoir.
