Hey guys, new here. A little about me, I'm a new driver, been out there for 3 months or so. I currently drive an 02 Chevy Monte Carlo, and I have had a love for the GTO ever since I rode in one, hell, 2 years ago? Well anyway, I understand a 16 year old asking about a GTO is blasphemous, ridiculous and outright dumb. But hey, I love the thing. Here's my situation. I want a 2004-2006 GTO sometime in the next few years. Now don't think I want one now - me at this point with a 5.7L 400 HP V8 GTO would be like handing a monkey a gun. But seeing as I have a good paying job, I figured I would set aside money every paycheck to save for the next set of wheels, which I'm hoping will be a GTO. Here's what I'm worried about. How are my chances of even finding a GTO 2-3 years from now? and even if I do get my hands on one, will Pontiac still be making parts for them? I just don't want to have to sell it as soon as I get it. Also, are there any plans for Pontiac to continue the GTO somewhere later on?
Anyways, sorry about the book I just wrote, but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys!
Welcome to the forum. I'm an old guy but a relatively new GTO owner. Many of the GTO owners here have found good dealers and reliable Pontiac service stations however there are also other Pontiac places that really don't know much about the car.
When the warrenty is up service will be costly I would guess and that is the situation you are looking at.
Its a Niche car and will always be more expensive to maintain than lets say a Honda Accord.
In terms of availability, GTO's will be out there in 2-3 years. The chances of finding an 04 with low miles will decrease of course. There are a few of us that put very little miles on our GTO's. Years will still depreciate these beauties though.
Still very possible in your case.

You will be happy when you buy your GTO. Just look for a car being sold by a respected dealer or from someone on this site. As far as parts. When a car is made the maker has to be sure that there are enough parts for that car for a 10 year length of time for each production year . DAM , you can still get parts for the CHEVETTE or VEGA and they stopped making that car over 20 years ago The LS1 and LS2 motors have plenty of new factory parts in stock and you don't have to worry about not being able to get any.
First off, very intelligent post for a 16 year old. By the way those glasses have root beer in them. I don't think you'll have a problem finding a GTO in a couple of years. The only problem I see is if you want a completely stock one because quite a few of them have some type of aftermarket part installed on them. To me getting one that's already modded is a good thing. There are always owners who have simply decided to move on or had other obligations come up that are unloading their GTOs at very reasonable prices. For example, on another forum a guy is getting rid of a 800+ rwhp/1000 rwtq '04 GTO for around $30k with low miles (can't remember exactly how many though). To me that's a great price when you consider all the excellent/professional work that has been done to his car. Yeah no one should try to recoup the cost of mods they put on a car but let's be realistic. You can't expect to get them for free either. Also you can find '05/'06 GTOs around $20K with 20,000 miles or less. In a couple more years that price should drop even lower because these cars aren't going to be collector cars like some in dreamland may think. All I can say is be patient, which you seem to be, and you'll get what you want.

Wow, 10-20 years? I guess I really have nothing to worry about there do I?

Thank you sir! All of you guys have made me feel a bit better about going for something like a GTO. With this knowledge, I don't think I'll have any trouble being patient and saving up to own a Goat for myself sometime very soon. and as you said, that will just get that much easier with every year.

i'll just chime in and say be careful before you buy. sure there might be parts out there for the next ten years but that's really due to some sort of statistical data formulation. be aware that the price of these parts is going to be worse than vette tax. i just purchased a replacement key...just the metal part for 115 bucks and it took all of 3 weeks to get it from the dealership because it was on order and the order got canceled and some other headaches. every time i've had it repaired from collisions the time to repair has increased. try going to the local auto zone and get a upper or lower coolant hose. try getting a standard paper air filter...not trying to knock the car BUT it's more than vette tax when you get to replacing parts and such... good luck
