Start Issue

Since owning my 2005 GTO back in October 2007, I have put 2000 easy, nice weather miles on it. There is a brand new Delco battery instaled in February.

Yesterday, I turned the key, dash lights go on but the starter does not turn.
After a couple of attempts with no results , I justled the cables on the battery and the GTO turned over.

Last night, same thing happens except after tugging at the cables, the car still does not turn over. Eventually however, the goat does start. ( I turned the key around and reinserted it- (that could not possibly work...could it?)

I noticed some sulfer build up on the positive terminal so today I will brush it away.

Any ideas to the problem and suggestions?

There should be no sulfur build up on the terminal, especially on a new battery. I'd start by having the battery, and charging system checked.

Ok-first I'll start by cleaning the terminal.
Then, to have the charging system checked, I assume I will have to have the alternator checked out at Pontiac service.
Is that correct?

You could go to a reliable garage that is versed on charging systems as well.
