So the GTO that I am picking up today seems to be in great shape. It's an 06 and has a lot of miles but the previous owner was a commuter so its all good. Everything about the car seems to have been maintained flawlessly! The ONLY concern that I have with it is the fact that I revved it to about 2K yesterday and the exhaust smell was pretty strong. I could'nt see whether there was smoke or anything but I know that I can't see any at idle. Could this strong smell be a problem or do these engines always do that when you put your foot in it a little?
Every car has a certain "exhaust smell" to it when you first start it up (non-visible smoke). I'm not sure if you're talking about that same smell. Revving it, even slightly, during the first few moments of startup would produce more of that smell.
Now if you're talking about the "exhaust smell" of say like an older car (usually somewhat visible) on the newer '06, then I would think that there's a problem.
The car could have been sitting there for a while...maybe that contributed to it as well?
