Portage car show

Just had a local car show just across the street yesterday, weather was threatening, but it never rained. There was about 100 cars, and only 4 GTOs. A 1971 convertable judge clone won his class. Not sure how that happened when the other three real GTOs (all 3 better cars) didn`t win anything. There was a most unusual car there, a 1921 Daniels speedster. The only one left know to exist. It had a huge flat head V-8 engine, real wood firewall, 33" tires, it was sooo clean it wasn`t even funny! The little cups on the head are to help prime the motor in the winter time. Fan belt is pieces of leather rivited together. It has dual exhaust with factory cut-outs, pretty dang advanced for 1921. The guy said it was a real barn find, had furniture all piled up around it when he got it, and it took him 51 years to restore it! I was parked just a couple cars down from him. I took some pics of his car and the other GTOs that were there. Enjoy!

A `66 I detailed the engine on last year.

Makes no sense whatsoever. Maybe the clone owner was a buddy of the judges?

I am surprised nothing was said, or a formal protest made…

The guy who won my class had a `64 Impala convert 409 4-speed car. A rare unit indeed, but it looked like it just went on a 10,000 mile cruise and just pulled in. It wasn`t very clean at all. He won the class and best of show. I saw the judging sheets, it was all on a scale of 1 to 10, glass, chrome, exterior, engine compartment, etc. I have all new chrome, new interior, new paint...not a finger print anywhere on the car, don`t really understand it myself. The GF wants to go to Iola(sp?) which is the biggest car show in the state I think. I told her if I can`t compete and win anything with a 100 local cars, how am I going to compete with 2000 cars? We`ll see, I might be done with the shows, maybe I`ll just drive it.
