Convince me

I'm looking to MAYBE sell my car and buy something that might be better for me and what I am looking for in my car.

I am going to be going to college in the fall, and I don't want to take my current car or any car I will get because I have seen what happens to cars on college campus' on a regular basis, not good.

I have a modified 2004 WRX that is a blast to drive. It goes like hell and handles great. The only thing is I've always wanted a big V8 that doesn't sound like rice. Don't get me wrong, I love my car but it is a tuner and I like muscle cars, no tuner sounds as good as a v8, let alone an LS2.

I would be looking exclusively at LS2's, so only 05+ I believe it is.

The car will only be driven during the summer when I am home from college so the loss of AWD doesn't matter. It will be garage kept at my parents home.

What do you guys have to say about the ls2 gto, please as unbiased as possible. I know I will lose handling and a nimble awd turbo car but im not racing at time attack either.

Some questions I have:

How strong is the 6spd?
With a full exhaust including headers, intake and cams can i reach or get close to 400rwhp?
How can I eliminate body roll and or make it handle better for less than a fortune.
What kind of wheel/tire setups can that badboy run.

Any advice or thoughts welcome. Thanks in advance.

Apex32 – Welcome to the Heard... I don’t believe anyone here is interested in convincing you to by a GTO, that has to be all on you…

Heads, CAI and a cam will get you around 415 RWHP, depending on your set-up and tune. Here is an idle clip of my Goat with the Mods you are talking about installed. (2006 – 6 speed,228/232 – 595-595 cam, SLP catless LT’s, SLP LMI exhaust, ported, polished intake & TB, AEM CAI, stainless steel filter, throttle body spacer, Piss off the neighbors loud…)

I am sure your other questions will be answered in short order…

Wow nice car!

Thanks for the response and I hear you, I've already convinced myself and I just need to get some more info and drive an ls2 version.

My other consideration was an 05+ Mustang GT but it cant compare to the GTO.

Hey welcome to the forum! Definitely a test drive will narrow it down... Nice subbies you got there... Fun cars no doubt.. but this is going to be an upgrade in many catagories. Gto's are at all time low prices, so if your looking to get one, try and snag one as soon as possible. Goodluck with your search!

Thanks guys..

You say all time low prices, but they are selling above book prices. I don't think you can touch an LS2 GTO for under 22k right now

Do they sell under 20k or do i just have to bite the bullet and have no money left over for mods

Get into a GTO, start it up and drive it. Listen to the sound of the engine and you'll be convinced. However, you may not want to park your Goat on campus.

What about the LS1 GTO, I've heard that I should only get the LS2 version because 1) obviously the ls2 motor and 2) the brakes are terrible on the ls1 gto.

Only thing is they are so cheap, like $14-15k for a lower miles 6spd ls1 gto

i drive an LS1 gto and the brakes are fine. and i love my LS1, and i find (at least in florida) that the LS1 gto is very rare, i see the LS2's every where. but like most of the guys said get in a drive it. thats all you will need.

what about the 50hp less does it bother you any? can you still make 400whp out of a ls1 with boltons?

And also who the hell decided to route both exhaust tips to one side on the ls1 gto, what a terrible idea
