Interested in buying a GTO!! A few questions.

Hello GTO forums,

I am interested in buying a slightly used 5.7 GTO. I dont know much about the different years and styles. I came from an eagle talon tsi with bolt ons, a 2002 mustang with vortech supercharger, and a fully built motor'd GT3076r Mazdaspeed 6. Im ready to go back to american cars after experiencing the horrors of Japanese made sh*tboxes(should have never sold my mustang 405rwhp/393rwtq).

Anyways, I wanted to know whats the potential of the GTO's. here are a few of my questions. (please dont flame me, I'm coming from an import forum where everything you post gets flamed.Thanks lol)

1. Approx. how much power can the stock block handle?
2. Approx. how much power can the transmission handle?
3. Approx. how much power can the axles/diff handle?
2. Are their alot of aftermarket products out for this car? (ie turbo, supercharger options)
3. What kind of problems do you experience with the car out of the factory?
4. How reliable is the GTO?
5. What kind of 1/4 mile ET's are average with full bolt ons?
6. What kind of dyno #'s are average with full bolt ons?
7. What weaknesses does the GTO have? (beside ****ty driving in the snow)

Any other info will be very helpful. Thanks! Also what are the diff. between the 5.7 and 6.0's?

welcome,
stock 04s run about 13.4-13.5 in the 1/4 average
04 ls1 346ci 5.7=350hp
05-06 ls2 364ci 6.0= 400hp
the 04 6speeds dyno around 290-310 at the wheels ,and Autos are a little lower.
there are people with 500-550hp on the stock bottom end

thanks...i just found an 06 GTO LS2 for $23,000. It has 8,000 miles and is black. full warranty. Is this a good price or should I bring them lower?

Well...always try for lower

... but that is a nice price on a low mileage and arguably the year with the mostest...
