So, I've been sort of struggling with the Beast ever since my trip to the track, trying to get that last little bit of flat spot out of it on the launch.
Nothing I was doing seemed to help, at least not consistently, and worse than that I never could find a pattern. It would seem to get maybe a tiny bit better with a change so I'd keep going in that direction - then it would get worse.
Having fixed the big bog problem with the tape, I was convinced the problem had to be somewhere else.
Yesterday I finally pulled the carb back off and tore it down. Immediately it was obvious the tape had come loose and wasn't doing its job any more. Doh!
Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results.
Anyway, there is a happy ending. I redid the tape fix (more carefully and "better" this time) and took the car out for a test a few hours ago. I held the car with the line-lock and hammered it from an idle. Oh my.. not only was there no bog or hesitation -at all- but the power was instantly there and it blew those brand new Nitto drag radials off like it used to do on the street tires.
I think we've got something.
