Information Wanted

I have a 1965 Pontiac 389cid motor out of a GTO that I was wondering if anyone can give me some info for. The oil dipstick keeps popping out of the tube and when I push it back in I can hear it hitting on something when the engine is running. What could be causing this. Does anyone know the oil capacity of this engine and where a person could get a replacement dipstick as this one is quite badly bent

Your dipstick is hitting the crankshaft. It's too long or bent or both. It sounds like the wrong stick or very damaged. The oil capacity of your motor is 6 quarts including the filter. I would get a new stick, change the oil, and trim and mark the tick to match where "full" is.

Sounds like you have a AC dipstick in a non-AC tube, The parts place Inc., Year One, Ames and OPGI I believe all carry replacement kits.

My `65 non A/C 389 has the outer tube bolted to the front outside valve cover bolt to keep it from coming out of the block.
