Undercoating

Hey,
What would you guys recommend for a good undercoating on the floor pans and everywhere else for good rust prevention and sound proofing?

3M Paintable Underseal Undercoating, part number 08882, I tried other products and none were even close to the 3M. About 4 cans will do the undercarriage of your car. Then I used 4 more cans for soundproofing inside the doors, the quarters and trunk, inside the front fenders and under the dash on the firewall.

Hey Linda

Also, I've had good luck using bedliner paint. It seals well and isn't as thick and gunky as off the shelf undercoating.

If it is your intention (although probably not) to do a restoration on your 67, as a technique, you might want to spray the undercoating on and then more thoroughly apply it with a mitt as they did in the factory. Original undercoating was usually only applied to areas that could be reached by hand. Just an obsessive compulsive thought migrating in from the NCRS.

Cheers n' gears//Mike

My body guy recommended bedliner products too. Just wondering if that was a good thing to do.

Bedliner paint is (pardon the pun) a poor man's POR-15. I think the protective qualities are similar, but it is easier to apply, and it isn't so damn glossy. I used it on the interior floor panels and on the bottom of the new gas tank and was quite please with the results. (I'll do the mitt smearing shtick later....). The seller/clowns that flipped my GTO had applied 1/8" of undercoating to everything (hiding all kinds of nasty surprises) so after dealing with that cleanup, I'm more inclined to use the heavy bedliner paint than to reapply more undercoating. Get a can (WalMart) and give it a try in a less obvious place and see if you like it. If not there are always more expensive options out there. (A dollar saved here is a dollar spent there......)

Good luck//Mike
