Getting a 10 to squeeze on the rear is going to be tuff. I'm not going to say its impossible but it would be tuff for a couple of reasons. GTO's (new body) all have extremely high offset requirements. Our guide recommends no wider than a 9.5" wheel for the rear with a 61-64mm offset. To get a 10" wheel to fit the rear you would need to modify the fenders or add fender flares/wide body kit to get them to fit. I would guess it would need an offset around 58mm or so but you'd need to have it measured. As for the tire size, the 275.40.17 would fit great on the rear but you wouldn't need a 10" rim for them the 9.5" would be fine and would still give you the nice footprint you are looking for. Our guide shows with a 9.5" wide wheel with a 61-64mm offset you should actually be able to get a 285.40.17 under there.

In a size 10, Nike and Addidas fit your feet different. Tires are like shoes some run bigger, some run smaller.

just to let you both know (and this is from experience, not just a guess), a 10" rim can fit under the back just fine, if the offset is correct. the offset needed is a 52 (whereas the stock offset on the factory 8" rims is 48). as far as tire size goes, it depends on the manufacturer. you could possibly fit anything from a 265 to a 285 without rubbing, depending on the style of tire

hope this helps you out

Excellent, Thank you for your additions. It is always great to hear from someone that has done it. Out fitment guide is pretty good but it can be a little conservative for a crowd like we have here. Our guide builds in some room for this... "it depends on the manufacturer".... error that can cause rubbing. Thanks again for the input.

It you like to push it, you will probably be able to get any tire to break loose in your GTO. That said, some will break free easier than others. The BFG's that come stock are a 400 UTQG. UTQG is a rating set by each manufacturer as determined by their own testing not by an industry standard. It tells you how hard or soft the rubber is that makes up the specific tire. It can be used to compare other tires built by the same manufacturer. If you like the smoothness and comfort of the tire but want a tire that will grip better BFG makes their G-Force Sport with a 340 UTQG. Lower UTQG's = softer tire = better grip. I should tell you though, generally speaking, the softer the tire is, the quicker they wear out. With tires there is always a trade. The G-Force Sports are a great tire for the money. While you are shopping "best for the buck" You may also want to look at the new Goodyear GT. Click on the link called "Product Details" for features and benefits. There is a lot of technology in this tire.
