Diesel Sound?????????

After my goat sat in my garage for 4 days without driving it, I started it up and got a diesel sound. I pulled out of the garage and turned the engine off. I restarted it and the diesel sound was gone. I restarted it a few times and all seems normal. Has anyone encountered this??? The sound resembles that of a diesel sound or a fast rat-tat-tat. This is the first I encountered this. Any takes??

Sounds like piston slap which is common to LSx engines. Don't worry about it

Mine sounds that way for the first few miles until engine temp. increases. This is piston slap and is normal for LS2s, it will not hurt the engine. I drive mine easy and keep rpms down until the engine is up to running temp

I've never heard of piston slap before, but then again this is the first LS motor I've had. The sound only happened once after the car sat for about 4 days. It hasn't happened since.
Thanks Guys!

A lot of people have never heard of it. Like I said earlier, and as others have stated....dont worry about it. It's normal. Just enjoy the car!!.....

ahh yes, the dreaded 'piston slap'. This has been the topic of much debate in the Silverado forum I frequent. The conclusion? The same as above...it is normal, GM swears there is no harm. Thankfully, my truck does not have it, and my car has yet to do it as well....

Piston slap thread

Hope that helps...

Jake
