Wow ONLY 19K over MSRP. That outfit took a page out of the Ford dealers ream good handbook. I liked the response to the question. The winning bidder won the chance to be cornholed. A genuine free market raping.
I'm thinking that at 19,000 over sticker the buyer did pretty good. Think about the Shelby GT500 that is still selling for 20-25,000 over sticker. This car is going to be rarer than the Shelby. it doesn't have shelby's name, but neither did the 1971 Hemi Challenger.
My guess is most Hemi SRT8 Challengers will sell for 25,000 over sticker or more.
Now if I was Chevy, I'd be calling Yenko Honda in Pittsburgh to try and get them to allow a Yenko Camaro special edition with a LS9 under the hood and a 75k sticker price. They could make 1500 copies of it and the dealers could sell it for 100k easy.
Then you make a Bill Mitchell Concept Camaro with an LS7 that's been turbocharged. Same gig, 70-75k and let the dealers get what they can. Make maybe a 1000 copies of that one.
Then make a special stripe and spoile package for the SS. Limited production of say 4000 units and a selling price of 50k. Call it the SS-RS Z28, half verts and half coupes. Let the dealers mark them up to 65k. The dealers get halo cars that they can make large profits off of and they draw people to the dealerships. GM gets a nice profit margin car. Just follow Ford's play book, they have it exactly right.

Yeah, but he's a "winner". Amazing! Nicely styled car with exactly the same chassis and drivetrain as a Charger or 300 and likely the same cheap Chryco interior. And I'm gonna fight for the chance to pay $20K over MSRP........because? The dealer deserves no scorn here. There will always be a sucker willing to step up and ride the corn cob.
So, in 09 it will be like the rustain with most tarted up copies running around with a 6?

Q: Nothing like putting it to the consumer whenever you get a chance. I'm sure someone is willing to get hosed. I think I'll wait until the bandits are gone. Dec-03-07
A: We understand. All we are doing is participating in a free market economy and seeing what the market will bear. The collectible nature of the limited production first year car is the driving force behind the market. You are correct though, in 2009 and beyond I am sure we will see production including the 5.7Hemi and the V6 which will open up such a wonderful new car to the masses. I hope you enjoy yours and I hope we have the opportunity to sell it to at a next to nothing rock bottom price. Thanks for yor interest.
