The GT-R Hype.......

Nissan is claiming some incredible performance stats for the new GT-R: 0-60 in 3.5 sec. (believable, esp with AWD) and 1/4 mile in 11.7 sec@139mph. With only 480hp and 3800lb curb weight, I can't see 139mph at the quarter. There are cars with a more favorable weight/power ratio that don't do this. I'm not hattin' but it just doesn't add up. What do ya'll think?

I have been following the development of that car and I believe the hype. I am going to the LA auto show this week to see the North America debut. It has like the 5th fastest time at Nürburgring track with a time around 7:35. That time is 7 seconds faster than Z06 or Ford GT and faster than any Lamborghini or Ferrari ever built on that track. I am looking forward to Road and track to do their testing. Those numbers you mentioned for 75K..WOW.

Yeah, that Nürburgring time doesn't lie, I suspect the 480hp is a tad low. It's prolly putting out something north of that.

I would agree with that and the twin turbo and AWD does not hurt either.

Put a twin turbo kit on a GTO and then see how that car stacks up against a GTO

No chance a factory twin turbo car would be able to beat an aftermarket twin turbo set up on a GTO

+1 On the track that GT-R will own the GTO but straight line slight advantage to the goat.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I love the GTO but when you get in to a 75 thousand dollar sports car with 480 hp a goat will not compare unless heavily modded. That is obviously up to the other 75 thousand dollar or in that ballpark sports cars such as a viper or Z06.
When people are shopping for cars at high price ranges like that it will be interesting to see what they decide on in upcomming years. I personally don't know that I would be able to get myself past the fact that the skyline isn't an American car, but I doubt many others will have that problem.
