They would need electricity to reverse the polarity of the magnets.

It is definately feasable, but the amount of energy needed would be more than we currently can store in batteries for a car and still be viable.

The only input is the two 12v batteries for the starter motor. It must have to achieve a set RPM to maintain self sufficient power. Once running he said they are able to it throttle up and down. I was trying to imagine how they would do it with magnets only, they must be mechanically manipulating the magnets around the jacket to very the timing of the armature or something.
