Is it a 335HP or a 360HP

Hey Guys,

I was at a car show this weekend and had another guy there that had a 67 also. He was commenting that I have the 360 HP block. Heck, I don't know. I knew it wasn't the original motor.

He noted that the front of the block/head had a 'Y' which designated this as the 360 HP. I guess if your not going to have the original engine then this is the one to have....

Does anyone know based on the 'Y' if his comment is accurate?

Thanks

JIm

Jim,

Here's a link with solid information on Pontiac motors and horsepower.

You really need a bit more information to compare engines, block cast numbers it down.

My '67 has a "Y". It's a YS designation, and is the original, 335HP engine. The 360 version for stick shift would be a WS...I'll have to look up the automatic code....

OK........the 360 HP code for your '67 with automatic is YZ. All of this info is available pretty much on line these days. Some of it is wrong, though. I found one site that said a YS was 360 HP....Not so. ( I wish it was!!) Have fun.
