'65 Tri-Power

I have a question that I'm sure you guys hate but I could use some suggestion.

My '66 Lemans has a 389 Tri-power in it that I'm planning on swapping it out for the 455 I have on a stand. I had planned on selling it but wasn't in a big rush so I hadn't done much research. Now my brother in law wants the motor and Tri-power for a 65 Tempest he just bought. Since he is family, I don't want to hose him but want to get fair value. So.....

The motor ran a few years ago. I parked it to start restoring the car. The motor still spins so I am assuming it's good. The Tri-power is in rough shape. The #3 NEEDS re-build. It floods so I am assuming a stuck float. I'm sure after sitting, the other two need a re-build also. Other then that, it just looks like every other set up that hasn't been touched since the factory.

So what do I charge?

Ok....He just came over and ran the numbers off the heads and intake. He said that he found that the heads are from a '62 and the intake is from a '63. He said he is not interested in them now. Anyone know what that does for the value? And if they are still worth anything?

He may not be interested in them because the aren't "correct" for his year car but they are valuable to someone with a 62-63 full size that they would've come on from the factory. I'm not familiar with the full size models but there are knowledgeable people on the PY forums 62-66 Big Pontiac TECH - PY Online Forums who should be able to help you.
They will still work on any model car but they may be more desirable to an original application.
Post the numbers he found and we'll see what they are from.

early motors

had 7? bolts on each bank and the `newer' motors 5 down each side,i'm totally uncertain about `64 motors as that was the change over year and i never owned any `64 cars,,the bellhousing is `integral' on your motor?,that will limit trans selections

the motor unit is proly worth a LOT to a guy with an early 60's Catalina/big car or even as a drop in for a 50's ride, don't give it away if nothing else post on sleasBay as`rat rod motor' they'll go nuts!,anything with multi carbs!

somewhere in oregon praying for some good gas, cool weather and a two car length jump on ya!
