68 conv. crossmember

Does anyone know if a 68, lemans (gto clone) convertable, uses the same crossmember as a hard top? What years will interchange??
Thanks, Duck

crossmember

just went through this about 4 hours ago with the '66 Lemans ragtop. Pulled 326 w/st300 out. Put 455 w/th400 in. I read an old post awhile back about the coupes & convertibles having different crossmember locations. that was for a '66, though. Not sure about 68's. Will do a little creative weld modification on the crossmember. You might have to do the same.

The short answer is no they are not the same piece due to the convertible having a boxed in framed, therefore it is narrower between the rails of a convertible than that if a hardtop. Now the LeMans convertible and the GTO convertible use the same cross member.
