68 Gas Tank

I have to replace the gas tank in my '68 GTO. It is leaking too many places to fix. All the aftermarket tanks for the '68 come without the filler neck. The '69-70 tanks look the same, but come with the filler neck. Any reason I can't install a '69-70 tank?

ThePartsPlaceInc.com lists the same tank, their part number FT2384G, for 68, 69, and 70. It comes with the filler neck.

Here is the reply from Ames:

The angle of the filler neck is precisely why the 68 tank is unique. The way that it lines up with the bumper is different for that year. You will need to reuse the filler neck in this situation. We to offer a tank for 1968 but only without the neck. Nobody has tooled for that one year only neck at this point that we know of.

Thanks for checking with us,

I took mine to the radiator shop. He took some measurements and swapped it out. It did not take very long.
