'69 vinyl top install question

When replacing a vinyl top on a 69 GTO, there are two separate pieces. The main large section of vinyl that covers the entire top/sides and then there is a small strip that goes underneath the length of the rear window. Which piece is laid down first? Also, how are the ends that overlap each other, done? Are they just folded over to the same size as the seam and line up with the large section seams and then glued down? I have watch numerous videos on top installations but none show how to do this particular area. Any expertise/videos would be appreciated. Thanks.

The large piece goes on first you place it on the roof and center it up side to side. Slide it front to back to make sure you have enough extra material usally 3" overlap that you will trim off later. Put a piece of tape along the back where the molding goes so you know where to trim goes and to keep your spray on glue from going all over you car. Then put some tape on different location on the door side to hold your top in place. Go to the other side of the car and fold your top material over to the center of the roof. Spray your glue the length of the roof at a width of about 12" at a time and on the top material as well wait till tacky then start working from the center out both directions . If you've never done this a extra pair of hands to hold the top material helps. Once the top is done place the center piece on the car under the back window and do as you did on the top pull it back to the center and glue that side down folding it under one time lining the seam up with the rooftop seam and yes the fold is glued. The glue is spryed on top of the top materal and on the backing so when you fold it under it sticks to the metal. Always best to do a dry run and put a piece of tape down where your fold will be and already have it trimmed to size. If the roof comes with seperate front pillar pieces they are glued on first and the top is rolled over the pillar pieces. Yellow glue and a spray pot and compressor works best and it is best to have your paint already cut and buffed if new and glass removed but can be done with glass in as well. Hope this helps
