71 LeMans Sport 2nd attempt to post

just got a partially started (trim and vinyl top removed) 71 LeMans Sport 350 took a couple days to replace rusted rear quarter panels weld and lightly bondo weld seams.need to pull bumpers and finish prepping for primer.
How do you know if motor and tranny are #'s matching for car? they both run good but I would like to know if they are original like I was told.

The trans has a tag stuck to it with a code and a partial VIN. Easy to spot if you clean it off. The block has a VIN stamped in it right next to the timing chain cover on the passenger side. Its right around the spot where the lower heater hose connects. If those numbers match the VIN on the dash, then they are the original parts.
