Am I in huge trouble or should I be calm?

Hey Guys.
My GTO was supposed to be shipped yesterday from Cape Canaveral,FL to Costa Rica. I put a low bill of sale value because of the huge amount of tax that you need to pay here. Got an email from the shipping company saying that my car has been seized. I really have no idea what happened, only thing I could think of is the BOS. I am not familiar with US laws and that's why I'm here to ask you guys. What does seizure really mean in the US and how should I solve it?

Thanks in advance.

You should probably/maybe ask those questions to the shipping company.
What was the reason they gave you for the seizure?

This sounds fishy to me. Like Ruk said, you need more information. Call the shipping company. If they can't tell you what steps you need to take, contact the US authorities: Florida police, etc. Document who you talk to and when. Keep positive.

Maybe it's packed with contraband? ...or $100 bills?

Seriously, Keep us posted on what you find out.

Hi there. From a legal standpoint, the US government would not likely seize the car unless there is something illegal with car, i.e. car is stolen property or car has contraband (drugs) in it. If you undervalued the car, the worst that could happen on that is you get a bill to pay the difference in taxes.

You definitely need to contact the shipping company to find out more information, such as who specifically seized it, what was the reason for the seizure and what steps, if any, can you take to rectify situation.

Good to hear, sounds like it might hurt in the wallet but it is a resolvable problem.

It is better to hurt the wallet than to let such a great car that we all love in the community letting get destroyed..

Thanks for caring guys

If you get in the ballpark with a $25K or so estimate, they shouldn't hassle you. How far undervalued were you, if I may ask?
