belts

Now that my smog pump is removed.....LOL...my alternator is in need of a belt.
It appears that the belt that turns the alt is probably supposed to connect to the water pump, and the main, and the alt.
Yet it could simply go from alt to water pump.
What harm would the latter do?
thanks as always

Garage
It could ruin the water pump bearing and seal.....If the pulleys all line up, go around the crankshaft, waterpump, and alternator. E

UE is, as usual, spot on. Always run accessories off the crankshaft for best results. The factory did it that way for a reason.
