Block Casing #

Can anyone give me direction on finding out what engine casting # 486512 is? I've tried the standard books and online sites and can't find it listed. One of the previous owners put the motor in a 65 GTO that I just bought and I can't locate him either.

Not to insult your intelligence, but are you sure it's a Pontiac and are you sure that's the block casting code?

Can you get the 4 character date code from the top rear near the distributor?

I have an a.e.r.a. 1981 cylinder head and block identification guide. I don't see that number in any section of the book for any motor.

I have a listing for year and part/casting numbers used. "485", "486", & "487" were used for 1972 -so looks like you may have a 1972 block. Your block letter code should identify the cubic inch, horsepower, trans, etc..
