carb choke linkage

In my fingers is the rod for the carb choke. It can fit in the hole directly below it, but I am already pushing the rod as far down as it will go!!.
Is it supposed to go to the circled hole?
it seems it can with a little puzzle solving lol
Both open the whatchamacallit, but seem to operate semi independently
BTW, this is a carb off a 67 Cheville
many thanks!!!
We tried 6 ways to sunday to put the rod in the rear hole........seems impossible, I think the rod is simply too long..........Would the cheville rod be shorter?

No, nothing goes in the circled hole. It goes into the hole that you're obscuring with the end of the choke rod!! You need a manual!!!!! Or a GTO buddy nearby..... and I need to stop watching the "Top Cat" intro on youtube!!!!
