That's one list I pretty much agree with. The old Auburns and Duesies deserve their respect. Good to see that. The first gen Riviera is under appreciated as well. As for the '66 Pontiac A body, well, goes without saying. The sexiest A body, period. Lots of others deserve the list, though, particularly the mid '30's Bugatti Atlantic coupes and '40's Delages, not to mentin '50's and '60's Ferraris. Great stuff!!

Not a bad list at all. Good to see someone was more on the ball than the usual list creators. The Pierce "Silver Arrow" ranks in the top 3 of my personal all time favorites. They also picked the best possible Camaro, though I prefer the full bumper to the RS. Parked nose to nose some time ago, my bro-in-law's RS and my full bumper version, the consistency of rounded 'V' shapes from the hood gap to the lower valance was stunning and uninterrupted by the floppy look of the rubber grille surround. No offense to the 66, but the 65 nailed it for the GTO. Tight and lovable proportions from front to rear, the stacked headlights leading to a sensuous and smooth body with just enough detail around the wheel openings. These are purely personal observations so I apologize in advance if I change anyone's mind...

I think the 65 is better looking than the 66,, but I might be slightly prejudiced.

For me it was always the Comin'atcha grille of the 66-67, one of the Iconic features that simply screams GTO.

Don't know if the Pantera would be considered "american", but they are up there on my list too, couple nice ones at the US-12 cruise last year.

I have a '65 and a '67, and used to have a few '66's. Sold my last '66 in '90 to buy a house. The '65 is the purist's GTO: 389, tripower, 4 speed. Lean and mean. Sharp lines. The '66-'67 is more refined, with a smoother, more flowing and streamlined body treatment. Not as lean and mean as a '65, but more graceful looking, IMO. I sold the '66 and kept my '67 only because the '67 was a ragtop, and even back then, decent ragtop GTO's were much harder to find than hardtops. Plus, I got top dollar (about $6500) for the '66 at the time. If I had to have only one GTO, I don't know what I'd have, but it would probably be a '65 or '66 hardtop. Convertibles are neat, but aren't the pure essence of musclecar that the coupes and hardtops are. Plus, the convertible loses the trick roof and sailpanel treatment of the '66-'67 hardtops. Everybody has different tastes.

I like something on all GTOs from 64 to 72. 64 gets my nod as the 1st, and the old-fashioned engine dress is almost like saying "good bye" to that era of Pontiac performance. The 65? Do I really have to say it? Probably not, huh? 66, and ZERO offense to any 66 owners, the coolest gig was the taillights. Well, the roof sails too, but something was just a bit "off" to my eye. 67, they fixed it. Leaned out the mass in the rear, the sunken taillight panel was just screaming for a textured black finish IMO. Everything else just helped blend it all together like the rocker trim and the grilles. 68, I give it props for coming out so well for a major platform change, I also like the vent windows for function even if they do muller up the profile a bit. 69, the meanest of the bunch. The parking lamps, lost the vents and made it look lower, better profile. And I always seemed to prefer the standard headlights to the hide-aways. Probably one of the fastest of the bunch if you ordered it right and kept up with it too. 70, well, it led the way to another generation with it's exposed lights and such. 70 was an "all conquering" year for any muscle car and Pontiac didn't disappoint. Best "Judge" package IMO too, but why didn't they paint the scoop tips? 71-2, the end. 71's hood scoops were nice n long and the 455 was at least homage to it's roots, but the 72, like the 67, refined a nice look with the deeper grilles and other subtleties. That's my short () list anyways...
