Console cover stuck closed

The console on my 65 won't open and my eye glasses are in there. How do I remove the lock. Pushing the button to open does nothing and I'm assuming the lock mechanism is nort operating. I don't want to drill the lock if I can avoid it.

TIA

Joe

You can remove the console and get to the latch from the underside, I believe. I ran into this years ago on my '65 and replaced the keyed latch button mechanism with an unkeyed version (just a plain button with no lock) I got from AMES. Been fine ever since.

Garage
I would try pushing downward on the lid while at the same time pushing in on the button to see if taking the upward pressure off the latch would let it release.
I don't think you have much success with accessing the latch from the underside without cutting away at the plastic.

The chrome metal part of the console unbolts from the plastic body. No need to cut anything. IIRC, I unbolted mine and that gave me room to work. Been 20 years or so, so memory is a bit hazy. But it was no big deal. I may of taken the hinge off after I got it apart.
