Fun :)

So, every Saturday morning there's a gathering of car guys up in McKinney at La Madeline. I went this morning. A friend of mine there with a really pretty 71 GTO convertible (built 455, Edelbrock heads, aluminum intake, Demon carb, headers) suggested that we should "go play", and he'd shoot video with his phone from his car.

We did...

Indeed. He lives not too far from this spot and has carefully selected it (you'd have to know him, but with him the word "carefully" is significant) as his personal testing ground. You can see for almost a mile, and except for that parking lot right at the beginning, there are no side entries onto the road the entire length of it - no parking lots, no side streets, nothing. It's as safe as you're going to get in lieu of a track.

Nothing like an approved "closed course"!! Also nothing like a big inch motor that pulls, pulls, and pulls some more, into the sunset. Agree, great vid!!

I kinda liked in the video how it's mostly my car you hear

He's a good guy. He's got one of "those" garages that's just spotless: poured epoxy floor, immaculate tool box full of Snap-on's with everything "just so". A lift on one side where he keeps his pristine '65 Vette convertible (and parks his late model Vette underneath). You could live out there. He's not that well versed on things himself though. He was having a problem with his car not starting because the distributor wasn't indexed right and he didn't know how to do it "from scratch", so I went over one evening and showed him how to line it up and wire it by following the firing order. That's when I got to drive it and was so impressed by the throttle response from that Demon carb. All you've got to do is think about wiggling your big toe and it's right there.

He told me the name of the guy who built his engine. It was a name I've heard before but it escapes me now -- in Baytown Texas I think. The build sheet was pretty impressive - definitely all the 'good' parts. It's just that I'm running a little more gear, definitely more converter, and a lot more cam -- plus I've got Central Virginia Machine "heads by Dave" Wilcox.

Big name

I think I know of the guy you speak of in Baytown, as I lived there for a few years, though the name escapes me now-but I can find out. My brother-in-law used him a few times, when he was a straight up mechanic, but then went strictly to racing machines, and would no longer touch anything less. Big name, everyone knew of him. Will ask brother in law the name- he'll remember.
